In exploring the quality of our relationship with food, I want to suggest that we can have a peaceful relationship with all foods. It is in that spirit I have interviewed a representative of a food group, which is greatly misunderstood and generally maligned.
Over 30 years ago I had a profound experience, which forever changed my life and it’s course. That seed of understanding, with nourishment coming from my life experiences, has an organic unfolding and continues to shape my visions.
As a therapist who has worked with a disordered eating population for over 30 years, using a mindfulness-based approach, I am well aware of how resistant my clients are to rules, diets, restriction, and fear-based strategies, even after being diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes 2.
By gently applying the wedge of awareness, it can serve to open the way to gradual change or to disruption of impulsive behaviors. Figure out what is triggering your desire to eat in an uncontrolled way and choose whether that is what you really want or need.
